I have a 2008 Passat wagon with factory dvd nav, factory sirius, ipod dock in the glove box, dynaudio, and the factory bluetooth module. If I purchase one of the new RNS510′s is there anything other than installing and plugging in the various stuff to the back of the unit that I would need to do? Would there be any additional coding required?

@Dave,
The packages that we sell include everything needed to retrofit the unit to your Passat. You will need coding for the unit, which can he found in any of the DIY documents or on this website.
You will have to swap some wires for the ipod to work. See the FAQ section for more information.
If we can help, please let us know.
Thanks,

@Flytdiguy, OK, so there is still coding to do regardless whether I already have an existing factory nav albeit the dvd based style? Also, do my existing antennae for nav and sirius work?
Thanks!

@Dave,
Coding is not required, but highly recommended. It should be done at some point.
Your existing antenna will work fine. If you have satellite radio now, you may need the satellite extension cable to route a new line from the existing satellite module to the headunit (the RNS-510 has sirius built in) or purchase a “horse-pill” style satellite antenna and mount it under your dash.
Then, don’t forget to activate your satellite service.
Thanks,

I have a 2006 passat with no existing sat radio or nav – dealer is telling me that just for the antenna and wiring is almost 1000 bucks! Is the included antenna and antenna adapter all that is required to modify this car with no existing antennas or wiring, to make the nav unit work?
Thanks!

@Greg,
There’s a much easier and far more cost efficient way to add a GPS (and satellite radio) antenna to your 06 Passat by using the “horse-pill” style GPS antenna that we include with all our kits. Installation is a cinch under the dash with either attaching it to a metal structure piece (antenna back is magnetic) or using a piece or double sided tape. This can also be done by yourself, thus saving any labor charges the dealer would have imposed.
If we can help, please let us know.

Are the newest map versions included in the newest model? Or do i need to purchase those separately?

You would need to purchase those separately. We offer the version 2M and 1M maps currently.

The list of cars that this fits doesn’t seem to include 2010 Mk6 Golf/GTI? Will it work in my 2010 Golf TDI which currently has RCD510 touchscreen stereo?

H Gary,
Yes, the RNS-510 will absolutely work with your MK6 with no problem. I have since updated the original product description to reflect this.
If we can help, please let us know.

Have a Passat with an RCD 510. Okay I am a cheap skate so only got the base model. Does the RNS-510 allow me to use the handsfree (Bluetooth) from the steering wheel and use the head unit’s phone functionality?

Unless your vehicle came equipped with bluetooth, which I imagine did not if you selected the base model, you will need a full bluetooth kit (module, wiring & microphone) in order to get handsfree use. If you do have bluetooth already, you should be able to use handsfree with the RNS-510 with some minimal vag-com/vcds coding.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi, I currently own a 2010 VW Jetta TDI Highline version but since I am in Canada the car only came with the Multimedia screen (7″ I believe). I am wanting to upgrade to the RNS-510 but I am curious as to what other parts I may need. My car came with Sirius/Bluetooth handsfree/Aux In(center console) + Ipod harness (center console). I also need a backup camera for this unit unless a universal camera will plug and play and I also would like to know what the differences are between my current bluetooth in the car vs the “New” bluetooth you guys sell(Differences). Thanks for your help with my inquiry.

Hi Nathan,
As far as other parts for your 2010 Jetta, you likely will need only the antenna, which comes with the package. You should get the vehicle coded (vag-com/vcds programmed) to ensure proper communication throughout the can-bus.
The Jetta has no factory rear camera option, however, there are aftermarket solutions that we offer that will work.
Which bluetooth do you currently have (9w2 perhaps)? Mostly the differences are complete integration with the screen of the RNS-510, showing the phonebook’s contact names and numbers, virtual keypad so you can dial on screen, and of course voice activation and audio streaming capability.
If we can help, please let us know.

So I’m thinking about getting a 2011 GTI (US) without NAV and buying the RNS510. Has anyone tried this on the 2011 at all? Is it better to get the 2011 with NAV so that all the wiring is in place and I can pop it in?
Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Damon,
I think the 2011s come standard with the RNS-315 unit. If you are looking to
upgrade to the RNS-510 and decide you want to trade, we may be interested in
purchasing the RNS-315 unit from you or offering it to you as a credit toward
the purchase of a new RNS-510 unit.
Otherwise, the unit is completely plug and play. Only think you have to do is
get some vag-com/vcds programming and install a GPS antenna under the front
dash.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thanks,
Flytdiguy

Thanks, that’s good to know! So if I get the car from the factory with GPS, will I still need to install the antenna or just use the one pre-installed?

You would use the antenna that is pre-installed. This would allow the most factory appearance.
Thanks!

Unfortunately Fabio, we do not sell many units to those in S. America. The last time I looked at the beginning of the year, there were no maps available. I do not know if that has changed or not, but if you can find them, I have heard of others that have been able to get the unit installed in Brasil without issue.
If we can help, please let us know.
Thanks,

You are better off buying it as part of the package from factory. It is called the Premium Package it will give you the Panoramic Sunroof, 17 in Porto Wheels, the RNS-315, plus the MDI connector so you can connect an I pod or anything with a mini USB plug

Thibriskly said, I will like to get the rns-510 but I don’t know what else I will need to make it work on my vehicle. I own a 2006 GTI.

Hi – if we purchase the most recent 2011 production model, why doesn’t include the most updated map? Why must we have to purchase it for another 199?

You don’t have to, please see the more recent posts. We have offered the 3M disc since the summer of 2010.
