New North America Map Disc Version 2M

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 7:22

Navteq officially released a new version of the RNS-510 Map for North Ameria at the end of May.  Dealers should have these in stock now so make sure if you are taking delivery of a new vehicle with factory installed RNS-510 that your unit has the updated maps.  If you are looking to add a RNS-510 unit, you can get one here.

Some updated features include updated roads (6.4 million miles), over 2 million points of interest and convenient arrows at the top of the screen to help with navigation efforts.  Coverage includes over 170 cities and metropolitan areas across the continental United States and Canada including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. You can order your copy here.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

    Sounds like a huge update with lots of new roads – is there an official site or list of the updates Navteq has included?

    Also, if I’m not mistaken, the arrow at the top of the display is the lane guidance feature which was present in the previous maps, no? Maybe they’re available for more turns and surface streets not just freeways?

    alden,
    It doesn’t look as if Navteq officially announces all of the changes, rather usually changes by state/area.
    I think the arrows were part of the latest software update that offered more definition for a wider area of coverage. I know with a couple of areas, such as Seattle & Washington DC, the arrows are new. Perhaps they existed on the previous version in certain areas…

    @FLYTDIGUY,

    Ahhh gotcha. The lane guidance arrows were present for most San Francisco Bay Area freeways, but if it’s now available for multi-lane streets (like wide one-ways streets for example) that would be great!

    One thing I do wish VW would do is make the traffic avoidance via Sirius Traffic more aggressive. I’ve seen yellow then red on the map show up, the nav still routes me into it, and now I’m sitting in traffic :-\ Dynamic routes is checked. Ah well, still very happy wth the RNS-510 overall.

    @Lupe,
    Careful in doing this…you will not be able to navigate to specific locations. Rather only to areas such as town center or other POIs featured in the database.
    If cost is your issue, we offer used units which typically save the buyer $200-$400 off the price of a new unit. Please click the contact us link and let us know what you’re looking for.

    Thanks!
